Kunumbra Apartments was an incredible project to be a part of. Not only was it the first four-storey apartment complex in Geelong, but it also holds deep cultural significance. Our director, Tufan, who served as the architect advisor, envisioned the design as a tribute to the Indigenous community, incorporating hidden stories into the building’s fabric. The side of the building features Lara footing and sandstone, creating a façade that mirrors the majestic You Yangs, offering similar views that the upper-level apartments will enjoy.
Tufan’s vision was to pay respects to the land and its history, and the building reflects this intention. With Indigenous art proudly displayed on the third floor, the design fosters a strong sense of community and connection to the local heritage. It’s a project that truly honours its roots, blending modern architecture with cultural respect and pride.
